Porterhouse returns to Miami during Winter Music Conference week for its 6th straight year on Saturday, March 27th at intimate clubbing boîte B.E.D. DJ/producer Steve Porter first launched his inaugural assault on club denizens with his Porterhouse party at State nightclub back in 2005 – with an eclectic set made up of a combination of Big Room Electro, Techno and Progressive House with Break Beats for build-up that was so electrifying, he left the crowd clamoring for more of his infectious, signature style. Over the years, the Porterhouse parties were so successful that the critically acclaimed compilations ‘Porterhouse Volumes I and II’ were spawned and his distinct ‘Porterhouse Style’ was unleashed to the world. Though he has had immense underground notoriety since then, 2009 was undoubtedly a defining year for Steve Porter as he made his mark on the mainstream front as a powerful music and Youtube video producer.

Porter has never been afraid to take his music one-step further in the name of keeping things intriguing. As he once fervidly said, “I don’t make music for anybody, I make it for myself.” It’s no surprise that he would use his creative foresight to experiment with the emerging ‘mash-up’ trend by creating the first ever video remix using the original Slap Chop infomercial to create a remix entitled “Rap Chop”. At almost 9 million Youtube views since its inception, the impressive viral Internet meme has propelled him into the spotlight. Popular is an understatement. Now at the pinnacle of his career, Steve Porter has composed so many video remixes that he not only has his own channel on Youtube now with over 16 million views but, he launched his own company Porterhouse Media to facilitate his new video remix projects which have garnered worldwide attention on press outlets such as TMZ, Fox News and ESPN. To date, his videos have been commissioned for FedEx, IBM’s Lotus Notes, and most recently, he is handling projects for ABC and he is set to produce the entire NBA “Where Amazing Happens” ad campaign with his video remixes for the 2010 playoffs.

2010 will be the year of Porterhouse Media with heaps of exciting new video remixes in the works including: “Life Alert Remix” featuring Wilford Brimley, “Doc Bottoms Aspray Remix”, and two remixes for the hit TV shows “Scrubs” and “Entourage” where Porter will be remixing the opening track “Superhero” by Jane’s Addiction.

On the touring front, Porter will be performing at upcoming massive events including NBA, Ultra Music Festival (March 26), WMC, and Coachella. For Ultra Music Festival, Porter created a special Ultra remix video starring many  of your favorite Ultra artists. At Coachella, Porter will debut a unique audio/visual live set full of original remixes as well as debut his “Superhero” remix collaboration with Jane’s Addition’s frontman Perry Farrell with an exclusive Perry Farrell vs. Steve Porter performance in the dance tent on Friday, April 16th.

With Porter’s prolific output and keen pulse on the cultural pulse of new media, he is one of the few artists on the cutting edge of this brave, new world. Find out what’s everybody’s talking about on youtube and don’t miss the chance to catch the always exciting DJ stylings of Steve Porter at one of his upcoming shows.

FERRY CORSTEN UNVEILS NEW ALBUM & CONCEPT TOUR ‘ONCE UPON A NIGHT’

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ferry Corsten presents Once Upon A Night

FERRY CORSTEN UNVEILS NEW ALBUM & CONCEPT TOUR
‘ONCE UPON A NIGHT’

(Ultra Music, March 30th)

Dutch dance music pioneer Ferry Corsten unveils Once Upon A Night, his latest compilation and concept tour. It is built as a double disc set featuring 25 unreleased tracks, all of which have been produced by Ferry himself or his frequent collaborators exclusively for the compilation.  The album out March 30th on Ultra Music is an amalgam of the best in house and trance. Drawing influence from Corsten’s travels to the world’s most exotic destinations, listeners are transported on a journey through unchartered territories of sound.

On the new album Ferry says, “I am happy to be back with a compilation after quite some years.  Because of the traveling and touring I get to see a lot of cultures.  These impressions have had a great influence on compiling this double album.  I personally think the mix is great fusion of house and trance combined in a two and half hour musical journey.”  The album’s exclusive tracklisting is designed to bring the warmth of a tropical beach to even the coldest of winter nights.  With Ferry Corsten leading the way, Once Upon A Night marks the beginning of a new era in mixed compilations.  Let him lead you into the night…

To support the compilation, Ferry Corsten also unleashes the brand new tour concept: Once Upon A Night: The Experience.   Designed as a 6 hour interactive journey in 3 parts (sunset, night and sunrise), the show highlights the magic of the compilation visualized by a never before seen living backdrop.  Ferry will be accompanied by two major league DJ’s, who along with Ferry will lead the audience into the night. The interactive combination of sound and visuals will take the audience on a complete sensory experience with state-of-the-art production techniques – emulating sunset to sunrise; from dusk ‘til dawn; pre-party through after-party. Once Upon A Night: The Experience will be an amazing indulgence of the senses never before seen in a DJ performance.

Since 2007, Ferry Corsten has hosted the weekly radio show ‘Corsten’s Countdown’  on 22 worldwide radio stations and weekly on Sirius XM Radio Wednesdays at 9pm ET. The program is designed as a weekly chart show which puts the listener in control of the  playlist.  As Ferry plays the latest tracks from established and up-and-coming producers, listeners are able to vote for their favorites. During the month’s final show, Ferry presents the top 10 tracks based on previous weeks voting results.  Beginning in March 2010, the popular radio show will be available as a free weekly podcast. Every Thursday a brand new episode will be available for download via iTunes and www.ferrycorsten.com.

Ferry Corsten has been nominated at this year’s International Dance Music Awards in the Best European DJ category and “Corsten’s Countdown” is nominated in the Best Radio Mix Show category.  As one of the most anticipated annual events on the global dance music calendar the IDMA’s generate votes worldwide from music enthusiasts around the globe.  With 57 award categories, the event honors exceptional achievements throughout the spectrum of dance music.

It’s easy to get excessive when talking about DJs, but with dance music veteran and trance hero Ferry Corsten, the facts speak for themselves.  The accolades and awards he has received for his productions, remixes, and DJ skills have resulted in Ferry being voted as one of the Top 10 DJs in the world by DJ Magazine for almost a decade. Since his immersion on the scene in the late ’90s, the Dutch musician has amassed best-selling albums and nearly a dozen gold singles.  He also maintains a worldwide tour schedule which, on any given weekend, brings him to all corners of the globe.  His albums, remixes, and singles reach iconic status almost immediately upon release as such iconic tracks as “Made of Love”, “Punk”, “Gouryella”, and “Out of the Blue” can prove. His anthemic 2001 System F album, Out of the Blue was recently re-released and digitally re-mastered featuring the complete track list and some hard to find remixes, along with Out of the Blue 2010, which features the legendary trance anthem remixed by some of today’s top artists including Tiesto, Laidback Luke, and Giuseppe Ottaviani, amongst a slew of others. Now with ‘One Upon A Night’ hitting our shores, Ferry shows no signs of slowing down in 2010.

Listen to Corsten’s Countdown – HERE. A preview of Once Upon A Night can be heard in a very special episode on March 17th.

Listed presents the Balance 016: Agoria album release party with Agoria for his Miami debut, and Balance artists Joris Voorn, Will Saul, Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, Chris Fortier, and Emerson Todd, along with special guests Three, along with Listed’s Dory & Hac Le and EQ Recordings’ Tom Pandzic @ Hotel Victor on Friday, March 26th, 2010 during WMC week.

After raising the bar to unprecedented heights in 2009 with Joris Voorn and Will Saul’s stunning additions to the series, EQ Recordings’ Balance series returns for the new decade with yet another standard-setting mix from one of the most sophisticated and inspiring names in techno, Frenchman – Agoria.

The man otherwise known as Sebastien Devaud wasn’t bitten by the dance music bug until he was out of his teens, but once he began hunting imported 12”s from the US and Germany in his native France, there was no turning back. His production career began in 1999, with his debut album Blossom and first compilation following in 2003 – and it was clear even in those early days that a serious new talent was emerging. His 2007 At The Controls compilation set a new standard for minimal tech-house with its impeccable programming and seductive mixing. Now with Balance 016, Agoria continues to blend the throb and groove of deeper, stripped-back techno with a keen sense of musicality, emotion and atmosphere, his is a sound that transcends beyond mere dancefloor disposability.

Agoria explains his intention for this intricate compilation: “The concept of both CDs is all about balance. Literally. In my mind a balance is not a middle position; it’s a perfect equilibrium. I’m trying to be as close as possible to this idea. I have tried to find this fine line where the balance is just right.” To accomplish this perfectly-weighted contrast, he’s cherry-picked from a myriad of genres and subgenres in his “beat open-minded” fashion, combining a wealth of material from newcomers across the spectrum (including no less than 12 exclusives!) with more established producers, classics and unknown gems from his broad musical past, and put it all together in an unconventional, challenging manner. “In the end, more than a DJ compilation, this is a manifesto of my passion for music and for mixing” he explains.

Joining Agoria for this exclusive event will be a slew of past Balance artists.  Joris Voorn released one of the most well received Balance editions.  His 100+ tracklist of exclusive edits, chops, and mixes single handedly raised the bar for all future mix compilations.  Balance 15 saw Will Saul bring an eclectic mix of his trademark discohousetechno sound.  His 3 CD’s worth of music travelled the landscape of sounds that Will is capable of playing.    As part of the SOS collective, Desyn Masiello (Balance 013) is known as a globetrotting DJ and consistent crowd favorite wherever he goes.  His music represents the finest that smooth house and techno have to offer and his DJ sets flow with the energy that comes from his own enthusiasm behind the decks.  Luke Fair (Balance 011) has gone from a Canadian favorite to a worldwide DJ hero quite a small amount of time.  His sound encompasses all things house, featuring melodic landscapes, as well as thick basslines.    Chris Fortier (Balance 007) has maintained a solid career in dance music which spans nearly two decades.  His sound incorporates everything from progressive to minimal and just about everything in between.  A favorite of crowds and DJ’s alike; Chris Fortier is able to call himself one of the most respected figures in the game.   Cocoon and Dirtybird favorite Emerson Todd has enjoyed a spike in his artistic profile recently with a slew of residencies, releases, and international gigs.  The native New Zealander’s style can best be described as rolling tech house.  This is surely a name to look out for quite some time. The perennial favorite DJ’s DJ,  Three joins the Balance soiree as a very special guest, along with Listed’s Dory & Hac Le and EQ Recordings label head Aussie Tom Pandzic.

There is no denying that Mr. C is a legend of dance music.  Over the span of his 20+ years in the scene he has tried his hand at virtually every aspect of it.  Mr.C’s musical career began as an MC in the U.K.  As the vicious front man for the hip hop outfit The Shamen, he was responsible for a string of mainstream and club hits during the early 90’s.  After that came his successful solo career as a DJ/Producer, as well as club owner.  Along with partner Layo Paskin, their clubs The End and AKA Bar provided Londoners with memorable nights for well over a decade.   During their tenure, the venues became two of the city’s most legendary dance establishments.  His many labels include Plink Plonk, The End Recordings, and Superfreq Recordings, which also is the name of his world famous club night.  Mr. C has released countless productions under a variety of aliases for some of the world’s most prestigious techno and house labels including Sexonwax and Hallucination Ltd.

His latest collaborative effort is with New York’s own Adultnapper under the Sycophant Slags moniker.  Their newly released EP on Poker Flat, “Keep Off” is a trippy slice of underground house.  A tight, clean, and superbly produced track, “Keep Off” also marks Mr. C’s return to vocal duties.  With the catchy “sky’s the limit” refrain, the track has immediately lifted itself to late night anthem status.  The EP also features unique interpretations from renowned acts Reboot and The Wighnomy Brothers.  Mr. C has also released his first solo EP in nearly 5 years with ‘Lunar EP on Wagon RepairLunar EP showcases his diversity with three distinct variations on one common theme.  The sunrise perfect “Full Moon”, deep after hours style “Waxing, and peak time “Dark Moon” come together to form a complete representation of the sounds that make up a Mr.C set.

Mr. C is joined by several of house and techno’s most esteemed artists to showcase Poker Flat Recordings.  His Sycophant Slags partner and Brooklyn’s own master of deep, brooding techno Adultnapper will also take to the decks.  Making his long awaited return to New York City will be Martin Landsky for a special 5 hour extended set.  Martin’s ability to mix deep music with funky elements and sexy vocals make him a worldwide favorite.  His sets are known to bridge the gap between techno, funk, minimal, and house.  Blk|Market Membership’s own Taimur + Fahad are heroes of the New York underground scene. Not only known for throwing some of the city’s finest underground techno events, they are also recognized as two of its best DJ’s with a keen ear for upcoming global talent.  With extended opening duties the duo will showcase the techno sounds which so many around the country have come to love.  Rounding out the bill will be Time To Get Ill’s own Crazy Larry.  Larry has brought together this impressive roster of artists dear to his heart for what is sure to be a very special night for all.

BALANCE 016: AGORIA + WMC 2010 DATES

Monday, February 8th, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Agoria - Balance 16
BALANCE 016: AGORIA
Label: EQ Recordings
U.S. Release Date: March 16, 2010

Blending the throb and groove of deeper, stripped-back techno with a keen sense of musicality, emotion and atmosphere, his is a sound that transcends beyond mere dancefloor disposability.

Disc 1 casts Agoria not simply as a functional dancefloor engineer, but as a musical craftsman, an arranger, a conductor. It’s the sound DJing evolved – the art of composition, contrast and texture, toying with your emotion and patience and pushing and pulling your attention in different directions. We begin all beatless and atmospheric, moving through the Viennese downtempo beauty of Tosca and the haunting acoustic pop of Emiliana Torrini and onwards into Agoria’s own blend of operatics and deep electronica on “Altre Voci”. Glimpse’s “Train In Austria Pt.2″ catches us off guard with its intense emotion, before the helmsman ushers us unexpectedly towards organic instrumentation and disco grooves, all warm and familiar after the heady electronics that went before. A delicate, blessed-out climax lays the mix down to rest.

Disc 2 sees Agoria go for the 4/4 jugular, with more of the trademark sound that he is recognised for. But it’s not quite as simple as that. Even more so than on the first mix, he combines and sequences tracks in every different way, splicing several together, reintroducing the same track twice or four times, comparing and contrasting different flavours. “I thought that to find the right balance, I needed to use all the ways of mixing. Editing tracks but also letting entire tracks play. Playing 3 or 4 times the same tracks, or spinning some for just a few seconds. Loopy or not. Exclusive, classic or covers, bizarre or easy listening, happy or trippy. 4 tracks together or just one. Loosing the listener for a minute to re-catch him the minute after. Spinning a classical music work of Jonny Greenwood at the peak time. Going up and then down. Starting and finishing with the same tracks.” Familiar names like Marc Antona, Chris Carrier and Mark Broom supply a steady throb of techno and tech house rhythms – melody percolating the mix at the right moments – leading up to a dreamy, euphoric climax, laden with the joyous pianos of Serge Santiago’s re-rub of Shit Robot and Martyn’s heavenly reworking of Efdemin. Two sumptuous vocal tracks round off this incredible oeuvre, the perfect finale to bring the mix back down to earth after some epic peaks.

This superb compilation is as deep and rewarding as a well-woven novel, the dénouement of the story unfolding as the mix evolves through Agoria’s musical DNA. Yet another essential addition to the compilation series that is fast becoming the new benchmark for ambitious DJs and demanding listeners alike.
