Randall’s Island Park has long enjoyed its position as a recreational hub for Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs for over half a century.  Centrally located on the banks of the East River, it is easily accessible from all points by car, bus, bicycle, pedestrian and ferry.  With plenty of acreage of grass to dance, chill and roam along with some of the city’s most stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, Randall’s Island is no doubt the perfect venue for the Electric Zoo festival.  With every ticket sold, a $2 donation goes toward the beautification of Randall’s Island through environmental art and stewardship.

MOVEMENT TORINO TO SPONSOR FIFTH STAGE IN DETROIT

April 26, 2010—Paxahau announced today Ricardo Villalobos will be performing in Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta; the addition of a 5th stage sponsored by Movement Torino; and 32 more acts who will perform in Hart Plaza May 29-31, 2010 including Ghostland Observatory, Derrick May, Booka Shade, and Marco Carola.

Villalobos, a world-renowned microhouse and minimal techno DJ/producer, last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played live at Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the now closed Panacea Nightclub in downtown Detroit.

Ricardo is looking forward to coming back to Detroit again after all these years,” said his Agent Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany.  “His return to the United States and Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival is exclusive to Paxahau.  He isn’t booked to perform at any other venue in the States, and we don’t anticipate he will be this year.”

In addition to Villalobos; the contemporary dance music duo Booka Shade from Berlin has been scheduled for a live performance; along with electro, rock, and funk duo Ghostland Observatory who will also perform live.

We are feeling very good about how this year’s Movement lineup has come together,” said Jason Huvaere, Executive Director of Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta.  “With today’s announcement of Ricardo and the other 31 artists, the response we are getting is extremely positive.

We are excited to have Movement Torino as the sponsor of the fifth stage for this year’s festival,” said Huvaere.  “Our international partnership when formed last year was historic and has since proved to be mutually beneficial for Movement Torino and Movement Detroit.”

Huvaere went on to say, “Fans will enjoy the great lineup of artists scheduled to perform on the Movement Torino stage, there is a great mix of talent from both Detroit and Italy.”

Headlining the Torino Stage during the three-day festival will be one of Italy’s most influential techno and electronic music DJs Marco Carola, Detroit techno pioneer Derrick May, and very  popular Italian DJ Mauro Picotto.  Other artists performing on the Movement Torino stage are:

Other artists signed to Cocoon Agency scheduled to perform at this year’s Movement festival are Cassy and Onur Ozer, both were originally announced in March.  Guse said they too “are very excited to play at Movement 2010.”

JPLS live

Berlin-based Techno stalwarts, Minus return to Miami this year when Richie Hawtin & guests take over the outdoor Buddha Gardens at Karu & Y, with its flowing river, white tented cabanas and lush greenery. Since 1998, Hawtin’s label has inspired a small family of like-minded artists, DJs, and a new generation of producers to join his side, creating one of the most close-knit collectives in electronic music today. This exclusive event brings the Minus Artists and the Minus sound with its varied and unique mix of minimal and techno, heralding influences from the past with a strong sonic focus on the future. Armed with the newest technology in DJ-ing and live performances, this is a must-see label showcase from the leading luminaries of the Techno scene.

Richie Hawtin is a name not only synonymous with the word DJ but also with the word technology. No stranger to innovation and creativity, Richie will be headlining his own label imprint’s premiere US event of the year to kick off the 2009 dance music calendar. Marco Carola has emerged in the last decade to be one of Italy’s most influential exports of techno and electronic music, now with his own string of releases on Minus sub-label 2M, including his latest “The Tribe”. Spaniard Paco Osuna, well known for his energetic and carefully crafted DJ sets, will be bringing his effects and laptops to drive the dancefloor into a frenzy. Troy Pierce has been on a tirade of clubs all over the world recently  and now emerges with his new full length album, Autumn under his Louderbach alias. Expect to hear some samplings of the Minus album peppered in his dynamic DJ sets. Canadian transplant Konrad Black returns to Miami, after the conclusion of his own U.S. tour for his entry into the Watergate compilation series for the esteemed, eponymous Berlin nightclub. Argentina’s Barem joins the Minus crew for his U.S. debut. First inspired by a trip to Berlin, his groovy minimal tracks integrate the rhythmic nuances of his native Argentinian roots for a simplistically complex, uniquely funky and heady sound. Both Gaiser and JPLS are geared up to deliver two distinct and dynamic live sets, with their seamless hardware integration and plug-in wizardry that are sure to set off the crowds to maximal effect.

For a minimal sampling to whet your palette, be sure to check out the latest Minus release, the Midnight Teeth EP by Bryan Zentz on Plus 8 and subscribe to the new Minus Podcast on iTunes.  Each month the Podcast will release an eclectic mix of tracks submitted by Minus artists and friends.
