John O’Callaghan
@ Cielo

Made Event presents Irish trance superstar John O’Callaghan at Cielo on Thursday, July 9, 2009

It has taken John O’Callaghan just 5 short years to outrun his ‘next big thing’ tag and move over to the A-list fast-track. DJ sets at some of the world’s premier events and consistent quality studio work define John as a masterful dance artist with a unique ear for trance and a pin-point style of mixing. Last year this gifted Irishman recorded his first Radio 1 Essential Mix and entered the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 list at No. 60. He also picked up ‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best DJ’ trophies at the Irish Dance Music Awards, as well as decisively conquering the competitive dance-testing ground of Ibiza with dates at Judgement Sundays and Armada @ Amnesia.

Since making his first moves into the studio in 2003, John has provided dance floors with a slew of releases on respected labels such as Armada, Vandit, and Doorn Records. Club killers like ‘The Chamber’, ‘Exactly’ & ‘Space & Time’ have all become mainstays of trance sets the world over. In 2007, John released the track ‘Big Sky’. Upon release, it rapidly gained modern trance classic status, virtually taking on a life of its own. That year, it was voted No. 1 trance tune on A State of Trance.  Although his studio career carries more of an original production bias, John has provided his own interpretations of tracks by Armin van Buuren, Agnelli & Nelson, Dogzilla, Ronski Speed and Filo & Peri amongst others.  Often reaching cult status amongst underground trance enthusiasts John’s studio work has made him one of the most in-demand producers & remixers in electronic dance music today.

In 2009 John O’Callaghan stands at the threshold of dance superstardom. His second album Never Fade Away and its single ‘Find Yourself’ have been garnering positive reviews throughout the world of dance music. The album is being hailed as one of the best trance albums in years. The single has already been described as bigger then ‘Big Sky’ by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Judge Jules, and Gareth Emery. ‘Find Yourself’ has poised itself to be a feature in DJ sets throughout the world for some time.  Along with multiple summer dates at Cream Ibiza and a successful monthly radio show on DI.fm entitled ‘Subculture’, John has quickly found himself as one of the primary ambassadors of the new trance sound.

Danny Tenaglia

Danny Tenaglia ignites his new monthly residency at Pacha NYC on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009.  After the end of his beloved “Be Yourself” residency at Vinyl/Arc (RIP 2004), Danny clearly waited for the right time, right place to launch another historical DJ residency at Pacha NYC, the last big-room standing with unparallel sound. It’s no easy task to be labeled as “The DJ’s DJ,” but then again Danny Tenaglia is no ordinary DJ. At the pinnacle of his long-standing career, Danny is a DJ highly respected by his peers; both locally and internationally, and a performer with the uncanny ability to connect to the crowd like no other. He boasts an extensive record collection, as well as the Midas touch; able to drop just the right track or edit at just the right moment.

Beginning this July, find the freedom to be yourself when NYC will once again be an international showcase for one of the world’s greatest living DJs, as we continue our journey on the dancefloor each ensuing month. Get ready for the next chapter in NYC’s storied dance music history!

Made Event presents JORIS VOORN : Balance 014 @ Cielo – July 3rd

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friday, July 3rd, 2009
Made Event presents
JORIS VOORN

Made Event presents Holland’s shinning star Joris Voorn at Cielo on Friday, July 3, 2009, following the release of his stunning 2xCD Balance 014 compilation on EQ Recordings.

Dutch DJ/Producer Joris Voorn is hotly tipped as the next big thing, with the release of his magnificent Balance 014 compilation. Across two discs and using – remarkably – over 100 tracks, Joris constructs a complex, layered and seamless mix of some of the best tech house, minimal and electronic dance music. An epic mix in the very best sense of the word, Joris achieves the rare feat of combining variety and consistency, both on the album and on dancefloors alike. This Labor Day weekend, sparks will fly as the Dutch star makes his return to NYC.

Performing a yet near impossible task of making 100 tracks mesh and work together in 2 continuous mixes, Joris Voorn draws on a depth of talent unlikely to be repeated on a mix CD compilation. It takes a visionary DJ to combine tracks from Radiohead, through to Goldie, Leftfield, Jimpster, Aphex Twin, Dubfire, System 7, Minilogue, Cobblestone Jazz, Emmanuel Top, Joakim, Âme, Mood II Swing, Ricardo Villalobos, Radio Slave, Carl Craig, Flying Lotus, Marc Romboy, Robert Babicz, Tiger Stripes just to name a few. This isn’t a CD you skip through. In some cases one track is in fact 6 different tracks from various artists. By allowing the tracks breathe at the right time, Joris crafts the mix ever so smoothly; riding along without you even noticing that you are passing from tune to tune. It’s all about the subtle transitions, the loops, the multiple layers that make Balance 014 a musical composition in its own right.

Balance 014 is unlike any mix compilation and fans of the series will appreciate the beautifully eclectic collection of music, the innovative blends, and the superb technical skills this set presents”.- Image Magazine

Essentially following the Richie Hawtin blueprint of mixing many tracks  at once into entirely new  morasses of beautiful noise, over the course of two CDS Voorn melts lush tech-house, minimal techno, deep electronica, folk and much more into a perfectly judged voyage across widescreen vistas, quite stunning in their scope.  This is truly DJing 2.0 – Joris Voorn belongs in the pantheon of dancefloor titans for this instant classic.” – DJ Mag

Next to being a showcase of Joris’ incredible skills, Balance 014 is among the best in its series and one of the hottest compilations to appear these months.” -365Mag

It is one of those rare CD’s that you can’t fast forward even 8 bars or you might miss something.  In many cases, 1 track is actually several tracks from different artists.  He might just use a small loop from one, a break from another and so on and so on.  This is a very intense journey through some of the best tech house, minimal and electronic music out there.”-DJ Times

Voorn’s hand at marrying club anthems with ambient interludes is a gift to the series, and raises the bar for future compilations.”-EDGE

SHINICHI OSAWA

Norman Cook’s alter-ego Fatboy Slim touches down in NYC for an exclusive east coast appearance at Terminal 5 on Wednesday, June 24th. Cook along with BPA partner-in-crime Iggy Pop, will take the sounds of the BPA to New York institution The Late Show with David Letterman (June 22nd), then to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (June 23rd), before reemerging as his Fatboy Slim persona for an unprecedented party when he takes the stage at Terminal 5 (June 24th).

MOVEMENT 2009 : 83,322 ATTENDEES OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Movement 2009
MOVEMENT 2009
83,322 ATTENDEES OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
8,000 lbs of recyclable materials collected during three-day festival

Movement 2009 attendance and collected recyclable material numbers exceeded 2008 festival totals.  Paxahau announced today that 83,322 people visited Hart Plaza during the three-day Memorial Day Weekend for the annual electronic music festival that featured nearly 100 performances on four stages.

Movement 2009 was an overwhelming success on so many levels,” said festival producer Jason Huvaere.  “People loved the lineup of performances we were able to put together this year.  Our sponsors and vendors really stepped up this year despite the tough economy.  The recycling program surpassed last year’s totals for collected items. And we had great weather the entire weekend, which definitely contributed to the record breaking turnout.  As far as events like this go, in our eyes it could not have gone any better.”

Since Paxahau began producing Movement in 2006 attendance at the festival has steadily increased each year.  An estimated crowd of a little more than 40,000 people attended in 2006 and nearly 45,000 attended in 2007.  In 2008 nearly 78,000 attended and for the first time ever festival attendance was tracked using turnstiles.  This year hand-held clickers were used to count attendance.

Festival-Goers Recycle
Electronic Music fans in attendance at Movement 2009 proved to be an environmentally-friendly group.  Four tons or 8,000 pounds of recyclable materials were collected over the course of the three-day festival.  This year’s total surpassed 2008 totals by 5,000 pounds.

Paxahau partnered again with Recycle Detroit, a non-profit organization founded by Detroiter Sarah Kubik.  The hard-working non-profit had a team of 100 volunteers, utilized 40 recycling stations and successfully convinced nearly 2,500 people to commit to be more environmentally conscious.

We were very pleased to have Sarah and her Recycle Detroit volunteers be apart of Movement again this year,” said Huvaere.  “They have single-handedly taken the festival’s recycling program to the next level.  Recycle Detroit is a great organization.”

Carl Craig Becoming Creative Director Steals the Show
Paxahau assembled an exciting lineup of local, national and international performers, but it was the announcement of Techno Music legend Carl Craig being named Creative Director for Movement 2010 that dominated the conversation on blogs and among groups of festival-goers all weekend long.

“We have received nothing but positive feedback from the announcement about Carl,”
said Huvaere.  “His involvement will strengthen the future of the Movement festival in Detroit. Carl is a musical visionary whose ambassadorship is unparalleled.  We are extremely excited to have him involved at this level.”

In his new role Craig will be involved in various creative aspects of Movement and serve as an ambassador for the Movement festival as he travels the world performing for throngs of electronic music enthusiasts.

Movement’s New International Partnership

The new partnership between Movement Detroit and Movement Torino officially started as Movement 2009 ended.  Together they hosted the festival’s closing party at Capital Square in downtown Detroit.

“It was an awesome start to what we anticipate will be a great partnership,”
said Huvaere.

The producers of Movement Torino were in Detroit for Movement 2009. Maurizio Vitale said, “We enjoyed our visit to Detroit.  The festival was fantastic.  Torino and Detroit are very similar cities, which is reason we think our partnership with Paxahau is going to be very strong.”

The two groups will work together to promote each other’s festivals.  Movement Torino, which takes place in October, was being promoted at this year’s festival with flyers and the Movement Detroit closing party.  The web site is: www.movement.it.  Once the Torino festival has concluded, the group from Italy will begin to promote Movement 2010 in Detroit to their stakeholders.
