Nominations for Club World Awards – Best Club, IDMA – Best US Club
and DJ MAG – Top 100 Clubs of The World

Cielo is proud to announce nominations in three categories at the seventh annual Club World Awards. Having previously won the “Best Club” award three times before (in 2005, 2006 and last year), Cielo is up for the honor once more, as is Dance.Here.Now who similarly won the top prize last year in the “Best Party” category. Congrats also to Francois K nominated this year as “Best Resident” for his Deep Space night by the prestigious award show that’s generally regarded as the leader in its field. March madness continues with the upcoming Winter Music Conference and the 24th annual International Dance Music Awards being held in Miami, with Cielo nominated in the “Best US Club” category. To top off the accolades, Cielo will also be included in DJ Mag’s prestigious “Top 100 Clubs of the World” issue out later this month. Wish us luck and read on to see why we’re still on top.

Legendary disco remixer, label mogul, celebrated DJ and now Club World Award nominee for “Best Resident DJ”, Francois K, kicks off a month of his seriously seductive Monday Deep Space nights on the 2nd with the dub poet Infinity. The Nyabinghi Rastafarian from Jamaica follows in the true tradition of dub poetry made popular by such artists as Mutabaruka, U-Roy and Big Youth. Just before the mayhem of the WMC, things kick off on the 23rd with Matt Edwards from Rekid and Quiet Village as our Deep Space guest. The innovative producer / remix has played a hand in hits for a plethora of artists in recent years including Benny Benassi, Kylie Minogue, Moby and Justice, while as a DJ his sets are pretty much like a box of chocolates: you never quite know what you’re gonna get!… Things round off on the 30th with guest John Daly (no not that one!) celebrating the launch of his upcoming ‘Sea & Sky’ opus on Francois’ Wave Music label. The Irish producer creates an opus that splits the difference between deep-house movers and serene electronic numbers with consummate ease.

Roots finds Louie Vega & Kevin Hedge on deck duty at their weekly Wednesday soiree, no doubt road testing some past, present and future Miami classics from the Winter Music Conference. Just back from his 2009 Asian Tour, Louie flies solo on the 4th with the duo joined on the 11th by Detroit and Chicago house legend Ron Trent. The appearance launches his ‘Dance Classics’ album with a set that will no doubt take in a selection of his own creations that have graced such pioneering labels as Peacefrog, Prescription and KMS… Next up for Roots on the 18th is vocal diva Anane and DJ Antonello Coghe joining our Master At Work for the annual Unreleased Party and launch night for Nulu Music. An abbreviation for Nothing Ultimately Leaves Us, the label’s founded on an ideology where anyone from anywhere can find, create and explore diverse musical genres… Finally Kevin Hedge welcomes Mr. V, the vocalist behind such hits as ‘Da Bump’ on Louie’s Vega Records imprint and ‘Put Your Drink Down’ on Defected, on Wednesday 25th.

He’s been in one of the most successful bands of the past 30 years, selling more than 70 million records, won countless awards and scored dozens of top 10 hits in the process. He’s Roger Taylor, drummer with Duran Duran, who with DJ partner Jake Fonique, headline “Do It In Heels” on Thursday 5th. “It was during my ‘hiatus’ from Duran Duran in the ‘90s when I started working with Jake,” recounts the dance fan that formed the electro house band Freebass at the time, and went on to release a number of techno records under the name Funkface. “We kept in touch over the years, and kind of slipped into DJing. Just having fun, mixing our own tracks with other people’s music.” After sell out dates last summer in Ibiza, the duo returns to New York to grace Cielo’s decks. Just don’t ask them to play ‘Wild Boys’!

John Dahlbäck has been a fixture of the Swedish house scene since the age of 15. With his cousin Jesper they started the Pickadoll label and have worked with Laidback Luke, Robbie Rivera and Zoo Brazil, establishing themselves as producers to watch. John is special guest of the Made Event on Friday 6th when you’ll hear a sonic pastiche of lite techno, burbling electro and dream inducing house. As an artist, as well as DJ, he’s known for creating a slick and highly listenable oeuvre of rich textures, warm chords and electronic melodies that gel well, gliding freely without ever dipping in quality.

Australia’s Dirty South (aka Dragan Roganovic) caught the technically transmitted disease of DJing long before he even owned a set of turntables. Catching DJ sets by Erick Morillo and Felix Da Housecat when they came to his hometown of Melbourne reaping the rewards of international stardom. Fast-forward a handful of years and it’s now Dirty South’s turn to enjoy the limelight. Dance.Here.Now on Thursday 12th presents the Grammy nominated producer who’s worked with an equally varied array of artists including Axwell, Mark Ronson, Snoop Dogg, Tiesto and even the Doors.

Friday 13th is Turntables On The Hudson with Mariano, Nickodemus, and Sabo taking care of business. Now into their eleventh year of throwing parties the guys return for their monthly residency of sultry jazz rhythms, Eastern melodies and Afrocentric grooves. The resident trio playing their adventurous musical mix built on a policy of maximum funk and absolute fun.

Almost a year since its inception, Dubfire and his burgeoning Sci+Tec label, are our special guests on Thursday 19th. The Deep Dish man and Grammy Award winner has always been at the cutting edge of dance, while as a DJ he’s known for creating an inspired and effervescent set, that builds on existing gargantuan grooves by adding a head swimmingly elaborate sound collages of crystalline electronica that really has to be heard on a large system to truly appreciate just how good it is.

Multitalented Tobi Neumann hails from Germany and caught electronica bug at the ‘95 Berlin Love Parade. Now an established trendsetter in his own right thanks to his refreshing cross-pollination of electro, techno and house, Tobi’s productions have graced such cutting edge labels as Get Physical and Playhouse and has worked with artists of the caliber of Chicks On Speed and Miss Kittin. Now signed to Sven Väth’s Cocoon agency, Cielo’s welcomes him on Friday 20th.

Ben Watt’s mixing is uncomplicated yet still slick, allowing the music to speak greater volumes than the DJ’s skills. A true quicksilver talent he creates a mixture of pizzazz and pathos that swings to a soulfully sophisticated pendulum. The man behind the revolutionary Buzzin’ Fly label, and the ‘90s the million selling Everything But The Girl, is special guest of Giantstep on Friday 27th. Edgy deep house grooves with the odd hint afro-beat, oozing elegance and panache is promised!

a Made Event
@ Karu & Y, Miami

Above & Beyond and the highly respected Anjunabeats label have announced their WMC ’09 plans, with a party at Karu & Y on Thursday March 26th,  a Made Event.  For this exclusive event Anujunabeats will be hosting two rooms at Karu & Y.  Room 1 will feature Anjunabeats label heads Above & Beyond along with Cosmic Gate, Martin Roth,  Signalrunners, Boom Jinx, and very special guest Josh Gabriel.  Room 2 will be hosted by Anjunadeep, the sub label behind the recent Anjunadeep:01 album.  The room will feature Jody Wisternoff of Way Out West along with Anjunadeep rising stars Electrobios, Liluca, and James Grant.

In a short period of time, Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep imprint has grown from being a promising sibling to the Anjunabeats label, to a dynamic and influential imprint in its own right, pioneering a sound somewhere between house and trance.  About the label’s sound, Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness said: “The road between house and trance used to be a dusty, barren path, visited by only the truly brave. But in the last few years it has become an exciting, bustling place with constant traffic going both ways. Anjunadeep is that lovely, shiny building on the left with all the people looking in the window.” Winning fans such as James Zabiela, Desyn Masiello, Eric Prydz and Laurent Garnier along the way, Anjunadeep recently received a nomination for “Best Record Label” at DJ Magazine’s Best of British Awards 2008.

The sub label’s debut compilation, Anjunadeep:01 features Anjunadeep stalwarts Jaytech, Michael Cassette (aka Komytea), Interplay, Joonas Hahmo and recent high profile addition 16 Bit Lolitas.  They are joined by newer faces like Colombia’s Liluca, Russia’s Proff and Canadian Paul Keeley, as Above & Beyond conjure up two CDs of spirited melodic house music. A special treat comes in the form of Above & Beyond’s own remix of Radiohead‘s “Reckoner”, officially licensed via XL Recordings for the physical format only.

The breathtaking and opulent Karu & Y is located in the heart of Miami’s expanding arts and entertainment downtown district. The newly re-opened 42,000 square foot venue, provides the ultimate entertainment playground with a few Zen twists. From the entryway’s signature waterfalls enter into the vast layout, including the Y Ultralounge and Garden, the newly dubbed Champagne Lounge, and Buddha Club with its far east inspired décor. Immerse yourself in this ultra-trendy, sleek nightclub with today’s and tomorrow’s biggest dance music stars.

Pacha NYC presents
CARL COX
24/7 Back In The USA The Tour
The King of Clubs Returns To Pacha NYC

The three deck wizard and King of Clubs, Carl Cox returns to Pacha NYC on Friday, March 13th to play host to club kids and dance floor veterans alike. Cox may have sold over a quarter million mix CD’s, been the host of some of the biggest nights in dance music history, but he still knows how to keep it simple behind the decks: one, two, or three of them. On this pending tour, Cox says, “I just wanted to go back to basics. Carl Cox and Friends is all about the ‘show’ but this tour’s going to be about the music and me as an individual DJ. I still have that pioneering spirit and I want to celebrate the scene with the US’s amazing crowds.” With Pacha NYCs award winning all Dynacord sound system, it will be very easy to showcase the best tunes this mega-DJ has to offer.

Carl Cox Global, the King’s radio show, recently celebrated 6 years on air and the 300th broadcast milstone. “I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished – 6 years of airtime at this level is phenomenal and the 300th show will be spectacular,” says Carl. The 300th show is just another huge achievement after an astonishing year. This past summer, Carl returned to Space for the seventh year in a row, with a host of iconic mates including Francois K, Laurent Garnier & Fatboy Slim taking to the decks. He toured the USA, storming the Burning Man Festival in Nevada and bringing his Carl Cox & Friends Arena to the Winter Music Conference for a 4th year running. He also dropped massive shows across South America, Europe, the Far East and Australia, played exclusive F1 parties across the world, and still had energy left to claim the SW4 crown once more at Clapham Common.

Made Event presents JOHN DAHLBÄCK (Stockholm, Sweden) @ Cielo – March 6th

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

John Dahlback
Friday, March 6th, 2009
Made Event presents
JOHN DAHLBÄCK
(Stockholm, Sweden)
With Stel

Made Event presents the next shining star out of Sweden’s electronic talent pool, John Dählback for his Cielo debut on Friday, March 6th, 2009.

Swedish electro chief John Dahlbäck is still in his early twenties, but he’s had more releases than girlfriends with a singles discography edging ever closer to the hundred mark by the week. Even from an early age, John was learning the basics on his dad’s Atari computer and he soon established his own style, which blossomed into becoming one of the best young producers to date. Not soon after his initial success, he knew it was time to take the next step. Together with his cousin Jesper Dahlback, they produced under the moniker Hugg & Pepp to huge acclaim and launched their own Pickadoll imprint, boasting top releases from Özgur Can, Sebastien Leger, Dada Life, Zoo Brazil, Robbie Rivera, Laidback Luke and Style of Eye. Recently John’s remix for Ultra Records of JJ Flores “Stay” topped out at #1 on Beatport for 5 weeks!

After a string of successful LPs on Kompakt, Systematic, Pickadoll and Little Angel, his fifth studio album, Winners And Fools, is described by John as, “the one I’m most proud of.” He continues on, “Making Winners And Fools I felt like it didn’t have to sound like anyone expected – it could be exactly what I wanted. I’ve always done quite dark albums in the past and this is really uplifting, with nice summer vibes and good vocal tracks.” The album, billed as John Dahlbäck ‘s most commercial yet, in the vein of fellow Swede electro giants Eric Prydz and Steve Angello. John’s prolific nature continues to rule – his busy global touring schedule will be followed by work on another album, scheduled for release in summer 2009. For John, his agenda for making and playing music is simple. “I’m quite calm when I DJ, I don’t want to be ‘showy’ – I love to play for dancing people, to really see them loving the tunes. And I love to make the tunes that get them dancing…”

John Dahlbäck “Winners and Fools’ is out now on Pickadoll.
