Cielo celebrates the release of its 5 year compilation album CINCO, with an album release party on Saturday, May 31st with resident DJs Nicolas Matar and Willie Graff. The release party is in advance of the album’s release date on Tommy Boy on July 8th and Graff’s annual pilgrimage to Ibiza for his summer residency.

CINCO is an eclectic amalgam of styles incorporating deep house, techno embellishments, and soulful vibes. The album begins in classic style with Carl Craig’s C2 remix of pianist Francesco Tristano’s “The Melody” and features a selection of tracks with a Spanish homegrown flair from longtime Ibiza cohort DJ Pippi and Willie Graff, as well as legendary Spaniards Kiko Navarro and Cesar De Melero. Also included are the latest tracks from Tommy Boy artists Ultra Naté and Louie Vega, three stunning remixes from Charles Webster, and contributions from dub-techno duo Swayzak, Billboard #1 Hot Dance Club Play artist Joi Cardell, NYC Small Wonder DJ/producer Alix Alvarez, owner of Toronto’s acclaimed DNH Records Nick Holder for NRK, keyboardist Eric Kupper as K-Scope, Osunlade as Nomumbah, and deep soulful house artist Halo Varga amongst the talented collection.

The duo of Nicolas Matar and Willie Graff artfully combine their common musical bearings and experienced DJ styles across the Cielo compilation series. Matar has developed his eclectic sound by playing in the most celebrated nightclubs in the world over the past fifteen years. His skillful DJ’ing combines elements of jazz, deep house, techno and African and Latin influences. Matar eventually opened Cielo in 2003 in order to create a spiritual and musical counterpart to the best of clubbing he had witnessed globally. He brought in resident DJ, Willie Graff, who is known for spinning an array of house music genres while incorporating a deep, moody and minimal style. Graff performs at the hottest clubs around the globe and is also the world renowned Pacha Ibiza’s resident DJ during the summer season.

For those who’ve never ventured inside the retro-futuristic club and housed it up on the sunken dance-floor - mind and body lifted by its crisp, pure, heavenly sound - the Cielo compilation series transports you to Cielo for the perfect night of clubbing. Made Event presents globe-trotting DJ Markus Schulz, playing an extended set at Pacha with AlterImage on Friday, May 23rd.

2008 kicks off with the release of Markus Schulz’s fourth compilation ‘Amsterdam 08’ for Armada Music This album follows in the footsteps of Miami 05 and Ibiza 06, and Markus Schulz couldn’t be happier about its origins – Amsterdam is his spiritual home thanks to the overwhelming passion of the people resident there. “I always choose cities that are dear to me for my annual mix compilation” says Markus. “I just love Amsterdam, I feel a real connection there – my friends there are like my family. The people of Holland were one of the first to embrace and accept me and my sound, so it was the natural choice to do the 08 mix there.”

Markus’ brand of dark, melodic trance is in demand the world over; his weekly Global DJ Broadcast radio show is now syndicated to over 30 stations worldwide, his shows have taken in everywhere from Australia to Russia, China to Trinidad, and many other destinations along the way, and 2008 is set to bring more dates in Australia, as well as Asia and South America. Amsterdam 08 is a must-have album for dance fans everywhere, and comprises Markus’ top tracks from 2007 and hot tips for 2008.

Next up, Markus Schulz is firing on all cylinders at the moment with four massive new remixes of his 2007 smash track, “Daydream”. The remixes come from some of the hottest producers on the scene right now. Einar K and Lemon storm in with two takes on the original, the Progressive Remix and the stunning Uplifting Remix, which is guaranteed to give you goose-bumps with its soaring euphoric melodies and driving basslines. Progressive-trance master Benya turns in his hand, providing a beautifully dubby, dreamy track perfect for those sun-soaked terrace mornings. Finally German sensation Ronski Speed lets loose a thundering new mix with bass-heavy rhythms wrapped around the original tune and vocals.

His second artist album, Progression, released in 2007, offers listeners a slice of his trademark dark, melodic trance, alongside chilled tracks, guitars, and sublime vocals. Says Markus, “Progression was conceived in the summer, whereas the debut album was done and released in winter, so Progression is less dark, and more influenced by sunny days in Miami. ‘Trinidad to Miami’ was actually written while I was flying over the ocean with the sun shining on the water, and encapsulates that feeling of optimism and happiness.”

Markus, who also runs his own Coldharbour label, has over the past three years crossed the globe on an almost constant basis; from Australia to Russia, and as far away as China and Trinidad. Along with playing his hometown of Miami, Markus was also found in Ibiza at his summer residency at Amnesia; The Two Tribes Tour in Australia and New Zealand; Tomorrowland in Belgium; Mysterland and Trance Energy in The Netherlands; Nature One in Germany; Distant Heat in Jordan, and clubs in Kuala Lumpur, Romania, Czech Republic, Mexico, Sweden, Finland, Hungary, Slovakia, UK, Boston, Los Angeles, and New York, as the list goes on. Made Event presents a trifecta of techno talent starring Pär Grindvik and NYC’s own Adultnapper and Alexi Delano at Cielo on Friday, May 23^rd.

Par Grindvik has been a core artist in Sweden’s electronic music since the nineties as a record store-owner, label manager and producer. After many years of touring and releases on classic labels like Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, he is now based in Berlin. Grindvik is an artist that always aims to compose music that adds sparkle and curiosity to the scene and he also runs the brilliant Stockholm LTD label.

After blistering tag-team sets at the AM Only One Night Only party at Winter Music Conference and down south in Columbia, Adultnapper and Alexi Delano have been hotly tipped as the latest dynamic duo. With their shared intensity for sophisticated and engaging electronic music and fine mixing finesse, they are also both torchbearers for Germany’s Audiomatique Recordings overseen by Steve Bug.

NYC’s arch tech selector Adultnapper is set to release the next installment of Steve Bug’s Audiomatique imprint with its second label compilation, Audiomatique Volume 2.0. The album is a descent into the deepest realms of electronic rhythm, veering from the spare crisp minimalism of Gui Boratto and Martin Eyerer’s ‘The Beach’, to the moody, strobe lit melancholy of Minus producer Gaiser’s ‘Found Guilty Mix’ of Adultnapper’s own ‘Juror no. 9′. A perfect snapshot of the label’s diverse roster, Adultnapper subtly builds the mix from stripped back, echoic grooves to tougher club battering technoid epics. It’s Adultnapper‘s mix that illustrates the electronic zeitgeist of the moment and offers a glimpse of where house and techno are heading in the future.

Born in Chile, raised in Sweden, Alexi Delano has thrived in NYC as an underground DJ/Producer and an international man of music that has been working the dancefloors for over 15 years. Last year Alexi co-produced a new album “Chronicle Of The Urban Dwellers” (Harthouse Mannheim) with his old friend Jesper Dahlback under their alias ADJD and released the “What Is Control” EP for Steve Bug’s Audiomatique label and another for Adam Beyer’s TrueSoul recordings. Now he is currently awaiting his new EP - A.D.N.Y. “Forms EP” feat. “Under My Skin” & “Zero Too Deep” on Adultnapper’s cryptic new label, Ransom Note and another one on his own label AD LTD and has also recently contributed a track for the Minus crew’s new label Items and Things.

ARGY: FOCUS ON ARGY

New and exclusive productions by Argy alongside well known and upcoming names and highlights from his back catalog of releases and remixes

Following on from Guido Schneider’s enigmatic ‘Focus On’ Album last year, Poker Flat are especially proud to introduce the next in the series, in the scintillating form of Focus On: Argy out on June 24th.

Comprising partly of new and exclusive productions by Argy with a strong handful of well known and up-coming names, and highlights from his back-catalogue of releases and remixes, the mix acts as a showcase for Argy’s unique style, taking influence from strong, energetic peak time house through to deep and spaced out percussive journeys. Hot collaborations with Solomun, The Mole, Maral Salmassi, DJ Gregory, Jerome Sydenham and Bayoga all open up various mindsets, various avenues of Argy’s musical passions, as we traverse through an impeccable selection of modern house music.

Not wishing to conform to the rules of a mainstream house DJ-compilation, Argy takes a bold and clear stance when it comes to the structure of the mix. The first three tracks start things running strong, as if you’ve just arrived in the middle of a peak-time set, with the phasing chord stabs from Argy’s Remix of Jerome Sydenham’s Ebian melting into the powerful bass of ‘The Storm’. It’s a soaring, urgent introduction that’s wonderfully unconventional and captures the complete spirit of Argy’s idealology. These tracks were designed for the dancefloor, and it spells out the intentions of the mix with style and honesty. From there on things become more cerebral, with Argy’s debut hit on Poker Flat, ‘Love Dose’, introducing a passage where time is frozen and the party begins to unfold at its own heady pace. From there on we are simply left in the delightful and submissive position of the Listener, as the introduction also serves as a contract between Argy and his audience. We are now completely under his spell… locked in and Focused On. Each track is clearly introduced with a defined mixing style, announcing each new moment to the audience and making a spectacle of the variety and depth of music on offer.

“I would never dare to approach an album without a concept,” Argy divulges, and it’s clear from listening to both the exclusive vinyl tracks, and the hour long mix, that he means what he says. Each brand new and exclusive track featured on the vinyl release is a fresh collaboration between Argy and another producer or musician, and the concept dictates that both must have an active part in the recording of the track. Argy wanted to try something new, something very rare, which is to group together collaborations with various other artists in the form of an album, and is a highly-focused album at that, exploring as any different dancefloor possibilities as are possible within his sound.

Traversing the spectrum from the intense traveling grooves of ‘Anenome’, with Solomun, a track that is perhaps the most energetic trip on show here, to the evolving percussive workout of ‘Under No Illusion’, with percussionist Bayoga, there are endless delights on offer. Teaming up with Canadian-in-Berlin The Mole, the two producer’s love of funked up filtered sounds come through like a sizzling afterhours jam, which contrasts rather nicely to the neo-tribal rhythms of the essential ‘Our Drums,’ a track produced alongside Argy’s all time hero, Parisian legend DJ Gregory!

And there are more delights to dip into as another figurehead and legend in his own right, Ibadan records boss Jerome Sydenham, gets in the studio with Argy. The resulting track, ‘In The Mist’, is a tranced out deep and dramatic cut with powerful chords, reminiscent of early Ibadan output. Also, as an ode to something further off the beaten track, Argy teams up with Munich based Vocalist, Songwriter and Producer Maral Salmassi, in the booty-sleaze electro pop of ‘Another Sin’. This track is a bonus inclusion to the vinyl release and really goes to show what fun can be had when Argy’s collaboration concept is adhered to.

In explaining the motivation for working this way, the young producer introduced the idea of the power and magic behind collaborations, not just where an established producer works with a vocalist, or a particular instrumentalist, but where two accomplished producers and musicians in their own right go head to head. The possibilities of collaborating are endless Argy explained, opening up a door for a special ‘third artist’, who is born of the combination of two overflowing, creative minds. This can be found in effect in every track included here, and simply reminds us how many talented and individual sounding artists there are within our sights at present, and indeed the pleasures making partnerships, connections and communities between them.

Also featured in the mix are a number future classics from his blossoming back catalogue of releases and remixes, including the spectacular warehouse-tribalism of ‘Love Dose’, his debut release on Poker Flat, to the driving peak time hot house of his ‘Legendary Bonus Beats Remix’ of Jerome Sydenham’s ‘Elbian.’ Argy’s recent dubbed out remix of Ryo Murakami’s ‘Down The Sky’ (Poker Flat 95) features later in the mix. As the energy begins to build once again towards the stunning finale, Argy which mixes his hit ‘Unreliable Virgin,’ from Frankfurt’s ever popular Cocoon label, with the epic, positive drive of Rune & Sydenham’s remix of ‘1985′, a track released by Argy on the Hamburg Liebe*Detail Spezial imprint.

Focus On: Argy is a mature, dedicated and insightful journey into a true Artist of our time. Displaying talent and vision in abundance, the young Dj and Producer is developing further and further, and this project is a clear indicator that his clear-headed musical ethic really works on the dancefloor. However, more poignantly, when considered in light of all the blurry eyed, lost-weekend associations house music often carries with it, it is a refreshing pleasure to find Argy’s true passion and dedication clearly represented in his art.
